At the invitation of the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene and The Museum of Jewish Heritage, leading ethnic arts organizations across the city came together in the summer of 2017 for the city’s first Immigration Arts Summit. This uniquely inclusive event featured performances, panels, and workshops. Close to 30 New York arts organizations that produce or present work from cultures from abroad participated.
The overarching goal of the Summit was to galvanize New Yorkers around the indispensable role of immigration in our country’s history at a time when anti-immigrant rhetoric was suddenly on the rise, as well as to offset widespread ignorance about the precise role and impact foreign cultures have on American popular culture.
Conceived and co-produced by Media Blitz, the Summit connected groups that had never worked together around a common cause of forming new partnerships and alliances, sharing resources, and raising the profile of immigrant art as a significant arts category in New York
